Social Pantry Receives £1.1 Million Investment
Social Pantry, the London based events business, has announced a set of ambitious growth plans following a £1.1 million investment from investment firm, Edition Capital.
Founded in 2011 by Alex Head, 33, Social Pantry has become London’s go-to caterer for seasonal and vibrant food served with style, and is now considered a leader in fashioning event menus with a creative edge, working with renown brands like Harvey Nichols, Facebook, Liberty, Nike, Jo Malone, Browns, Moncler and Massimo Dutti to name a few, while also priding their conscientious approach to employment, sustainability and social enterprise.
For Alex and the Social Pantry team, the investment of £1.1m will provide the means for the company to expand its burgeoning events business, as well as furthering the company’s social reform campaigns.
Since founding the company, Alex has worked directly with London prisons and charities that naturally connect with the values of Social Pantry, including, offering job opportunities to ex-offenders, assisting with their rehabilitation and equipping them with the skills they need to succeed. Since 2015, Alex has been an ambassador for young ex-offender’s charity, Key4Life, who help rehabilitate ex-offenders and break the cycle of re-offending. Social Pantry also work with the likes of Bad Boys Bakery, a social enterprise inside HM Prison Brixton and Switchback, a London based rehabilitation charity.
Today, 10% of Social Pantry’s workforce is made up of former offenders, and the investment will allow Alex to offer new employment opportunities and training to ex-offenders, via expanding the catering and events side of the business. Already operating in seven locations across the city, including Social Pantry Café based in Battersea, Soane’s Kitchen at Pitzhanger Manor, Ealing, and Crane’s Kitchen in Peckham, the Social Pantry team now have further ambitious plans to open additional sites.

Throughout our journey I have worked hard to ensure the same philosophies we started with are still instilled in the business today. I am honoured to work with some incredible individuals, including many, who after difficult starts, could have gone on to lead very different lives. This investment will allow us to further realise our ambitions, both in terms of growing the business to reach new markets, but also, with helping more people than ever turn their lives around through work opportunities in the hospitality industry.”
